At the Group Training Council assembly on Sept. 22, 2014, Prof. Mark Lauterbach of Brooklyn Faculty learn a letter from seventy three professors of schooling and psychology, urging Chancellor Farina to cut back class size as a part of town’s Contract for Excellence plan. The letter points out that early education doesn’t end at the age of four, and that the benefits of most of the other DOE’s initiatives such as expanded preK and particular schooling inclusion, will doubtless be undermined with out smaller courses. Then he responded to questions from CEC members, and discussed how class size reduction is the best approach to improve learning, over professional improvement and other methods. Unsure how things work there, but at Canadian universities if your GPA falls to a C you are placed on educational probation and should you don’t improve it the next semester you are suspended and must take a bunch of courses elsewhere and get a B average to be re-admitted.
